Instrument Mastersheet

The problem

On most projects, instrument information lives in a half-dozen places at once: the P&IDs, a datasheet file per instrument, an instrument index somebody started two projects ago, and whatever the vendor sent back. Every document is maintained by hand, so every revision is a chance for the spec sheet, the instrument list, and the P&ID to quietly disagree with each other.

What the Mastersheet does

The Mastersheet makes one workbook the single source of truth for every instrument tag at a plant or on a project. Enter an instrument’s data once — tag, service, process conditions, materials, signal type — and the workbook generates the deliverables from it:

• Instrument spec sheets / datasheets, formatted and ready to issue for vendor quoting
• Instrument lists and indexes, filtered however the project needs them
• Consistent tag data across every generated document, because there is only one place the data lives

Why it matters

Documents that used to take days of copy-paste-and-check now come from a refresh, and a revision means changing one row instead of hunting through a folder of files. It’s the same discipline I bring to process design work at Total Aspect Design, packaged into a tool any project can use.

Status

Currently I offer project tracking with this service at Total Aspect Design. Eventually I will roll this out as a licensed downloadable piece of software that plants can use to help manage and streamline their instrument database.
